Father Capulet:
Father Capulet is Juliet’s father. He and the Montague
family have had a grudge against each other but there are no details in the
story to explain when and why. He decides to arrange a marriage for Juliet.
To what extent do you see this person as having some responsibility
for the tragedy that occurs?
Father Capulet plays a significant part in the tragedy that
occurs for a number of reasons. If he and the Montague father had never had a
feud in the first place then everyone wouldn’t be so opposed to Romeo and
Juliet marrying. This is the root of the problem. It would be acceptable if
they had have had a fight in the past but to hold a grudge for that long and to
also pass that down through the generations is taking it a bit far. Also if he hadn’t
have arranged a marriage for Juliet than she wouldn’t have rushed into
everything and been more mature about being with Romeo instead of killing
herself. This explains how significant Father Capulet was in the tragedy that occurred.
